At the 2017 Watermark Leadership Conference, we were lucky enough to sit down with Gladys Kong, CEO of UberMedia and one of Fortune's Most Powerful Women. Gladys shared her experiences moving to the United States and finding her passion in engineering and technology, explaining that one of her reasons for speaking at the conference was to encourage more women to get into tech, grow their careers and mentor other women.
Gladys addressed the confusion of her company, UberMedia, with Uber, a company that is working to overcome its negative association with how it treats women. She clarified that her mobile data and tech company is not at all affiliated with Uber and was "very proud to say that we actually are the Uber that has 50/50 gender equality." Gladys believes that the main challenge is that there aren't enough women in tech, and encouraged women to find mentors and sponsors who will speak up for them and help them move up.
In the future, Gladys said, "I'm trying to speak out more at conferences like this so that other people can hear the story of how an introvert like me can also grow into a leadership position. I hope that encourages others."
